Background:
Daniel was born and raised in Roadwater where his Granddad still has a farm. He met Keith Payne at Minehead rugby club aged 17 and after travelling and playing rugby in Australia and New Zealand, settled down in Somerset to be a thatcher.

Thatching experience:
Daniel trained at Knuston Hall in Northamptonshire and worked as a master thatcher for The National Trust for 5 years. He was the first Holnicote Estate thatcher to be appointed for 50 years and responsible for the self-sufficiency of the thatched roofs throughout the estate. He has been an independent master thatcher for 3 years, working on large projects in Wales, London and Somerset.

Specialisations:
Works alongside the National Trust growing crops to promote self-reliance and negate the need for foreign imported materials. Also holds a Pest Control Certificate.

Philosophy:
To look at a newly thatched roof and say ‘I did that’ is a feeling you just can’t beat.

The roof Daniel would most like to thatch:
Anything that needs re-thatching.
