Self sufficency is our aim

Over the years, the supply of combed wheat  reed has become increasingly
unreliable. So West Country Thatchers have invested in growing our own wheat in West Somerset to ensure a regular supply of the highest quality of combed wheat to meet our customers’ needs.

Currently our self-grown reed supplements outside suppliers’ materials, but we have
successfully completed our second harvest and in 2009 plan to scale up the operation to
30 acres.  The long term plan is that we grow all of our own wheat and become
totally self-sufficient.
